Uttarakhand: Landslide killed seven people; three bodies found in Pithoragarh

A senior official in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district said on Monday that at least seven people were feared dead after their homes were hit by debris and muck as a result of a cloud burst. “Heavy rains caused debris and muck to fall on the houses in Jamri and Tarkot hamlets in Jumma village, causing the disaster. Three bodies have been recovered so far, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is looking for the rest of the village’s missing people,” said Ashish Chauhan, Pithoragarh’s district magistrate.

Two people were killed and five others were buried under debris in the village, which is about 125 kilometres from the district headquarters, according to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami earlier in the day. “The district magistrate has been given orders to step up the rescue effort. “I pray to God for the safety of those trapped there,” Dhami said in a tweet that was roughly translated from Hindi.
