Indian pacer Mohammed Shami faces online abuse after India’s loss

After India’s defeat to arch-rival Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, India pacer Mohammed Shami has been exposed to internet abuse.

Fans took to Instagram and Twitter after India’s loss against Pakistan on Sunday to make derogatory remarks about Mohammed Shami.

India scored only 152 runs in their first innings. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi was the team’s best bowler, taking three wickets in four overs.

Pakistan reached the mark in just 18 overs, losing only one wicket.

Pakistan beat India by ten wickets, and none of the Indian bowlers were able to make an impression, as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan ripped the Indian bowling apart.

Virat Kohli, India’s captain, witnessed some unruly crowd behavior, and the trolls have not been nice to him, as he has been criticized for his captaincy throughout the game.

At the end of the game, Kohli told host broadcaster Star Sports “We didn’t execute properly. Credit where it’s due and Pakistan outplayed us today. They started brilliantly with the ball, and 3 wickets for 20 runs was not a good start. We needed wickets early but with the bat, they gave us absolutely no chances, “

In the meantime, Indian batting superstar Virender Sehwag has defended Shami.

Sehwag has expressed his displeasure with Shami’s treatment and stated that he stands with him (Shami).

“The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob.  With you Shami. Agle match mein dikado jalwa,” Sehwag tweeted.

Moreover, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, speaking on the incident said, “Md Shami is being targeted on social media for yesterday’s match, showing radicalization, hatred against Muslims. In cricket, you win or lose. There are 11 players on the team but only a Muslim player is targeted. Will BJP govt condemn it?”.
