Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated shooter Avani Lekhara on winning India’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics and discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya on winning silver.
Lekhara, 19, also equaled the world record in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event with a total score of 249.6.
Modi congratulated Lekhara on her victory, saying it was a source of great pride for him. Avani expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received from the entire country. “Congratulations on winning a hard-earned and well-deserved Gold, made possible by your industrious nature and passion for shooting,” the Prime Minister added.
