Assam Govt Appoints Jishnu Barua as new Chief Secretary

Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua is all set to become the next Chief Secretary of Assam. Barua is likely to take over the position from Saturday as the outgoing chief secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, will retire on October 31, 2020.

Barua is an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer of the 1988 batch and is currently in charge of the Home & Political, Revenue & DM secretariat administration (archives) and Border Protection & Development, and Implementation of Assam Accord departments.

Apart from Barua, the names of several IAS officers including Ravi Capoor, an IAS officer of 1986 batch, were doing the round for the post. However, according to highly-placed sources, the Assam government chose IAS officer Jishnu Barua for the top post.
