Cops rescues smuggled Kangaroo from Assam-Bengal Border

The police discovered a kangaroo that was allegedly being smuggled at Pakhriguri on the Bengal-Assam border, possibly for the first time in the region.

The kangaroo was discovered during a routine check of all vehicles, according to the police.

Moreover, it was being transported in a truck from Assam’s side to Bengal’s side.

A police team intercepted a mini-truck on National Highway-31 in the Barobisha area near the Assam-West Bengal border, acting on a tip-off, and rescued the animal, according to a senior officer.

Two people were from Hyderabad and have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in animal trafficking.

”The vehicle was intercepted during a Naka check. It is suspected that the two arrested persons were trying to smuggle the kangaroo to Hyderabad,” Kumargram Police Station inspector in-charge Basudeb Sarkar said.

Furthermore, many other animals and exotic birds have been rescued before being trafficked, but this is the first time a kangaroo has been rescued.

Earlier many other animals and exotic birds have been rescued before being trafficked, but this is the first time a kangaroo has been rescued.

However, this could be the first time in decades that such a recovery has been reported.

According to the police, when they discovered the kangaroo in the truck, they inquired about the documents with the occupants.

Further, the occupants refused to produce any documentation, and hence, it was discovered that the Kangaroo was being smuggled by animal traffickers.

The truck’s two occupants were apprehended on the spot, and the vehicle was taken away.

Asked about the fact that kangaroos are not found in India, he said, ”The accused persons are being interrogated to know where from they soured the animal and what was their motive. They may have links with international wildlife trafficking rackets.” Kangaroos are large marsupials that are found mostly in Australia and New Guinea.

However, the kangaroo was handed over to the state forest department, and the rescued animal has been relocated to Calcutta’s Alipore Zoo.
