India successfully Tests BrahMos Supersonic Missile

India successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from INS Chennai, an ingenuously built stealth destroyer of the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea on Sunday. Defence minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), BrahMos and the Indian Navy for the successful launch.

“The missile hit the target with pin-point accuracy after performing high-level and extremely complex manoeuvres. BrahMos as a prime strike weapon will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of Indian Navy,” the defence ministry said in a statement.

BrahMos Aerospace, is an India-Russia joint venture that produces the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms. It is a ‘prime strike weapon’ that will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform. In the last few weeks, India has test fired a number of missiles. The original 290-km range BrahMos has already been deployed in Ladakh as well as Arunachal Pradesh during the ongoing military confrontation with China.
