Indian Navy gets its first batch of women pilots for Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) missions on Dornier aircraft. The female Officers that will take on all MR missions are Lieutenant Divya Sharma, Lt Shubhangi Swaroop and Lt Shivangi. They completed Dornier Operational Flying Training (DOFT) on October 20 at INS Garuda in Kerala’s Kochi.
The three women pilots had undergone basic flying training with the Indian Air Force as well as the Indian Navy. Lt Shivangi who hails from Muzaffarpur in Bihar was the first to qualify as a naval pilot. Lt Divya Sharma from Uttar Pradesh’s Tilhar and Lt Divya Sharma from Malviya Nagar in New Delhi were adjudged ‘First in Flying’ and ‘First in Ground’ subjects, respectively.
