Three Achievers from Assam were chosen for the prestigious Padma awards for the year 2023.

Hemoprova Chutia, Hem Chandra Goswami, and Ramkuiwangbe Jene were selected in recognition of their respective contributions in the fields of art, social work, and public affairs.

Ramkuiwangbe Newme, a Naga Social Worker from Dima Hasao, has been given Padma Shri in the field of Social Work. The 75-year-old Newme established 10 primary schools and encouraged education for women.

Hemoprova Chutia and Hem Chandra Goswami have been given Padma Shri in the field of Arts. 

Hemoprova Chutia, is a renowned artist who has weaved a gamocha portraying Gunamala, the celebrated work of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.

Hem Chandra Goswami is a renowned mask maker from Majuli district. He has dedicated four decades of his life to practising, preserving and promoting the mask-making tradition of Assam.
