Pakistan issued Arrest warrant against Hindi Medium actress Saba Qamar

Saba Qamar, a Pakistani actress best known for her role in Hindi Medium, seems to have landed herself into big trouble on Wednesday after a local court in Pakistan issued arrest warrants in a case filed against her and Bilal Saeed for filming a dance video at a historical mosque in Lahore. For failing to appear in court numerous times, Lahore’s magistrate court issued bailable warrants for Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed, and the court hearing was rescheduled till October 6th.

Last year, Lahore police filed a case against both of them under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly desecrating Masjid Wazir Khan in Lahore’s old city. According to the FIR, both Saba and Bilal violated the norms by filming a dance video in the sacred mosque, which enraged the public to the point that Qamar and Saeed received death threats.

A sessions court had ordered the officer in charge of the Akbari Gate police station to continue in accordance with the law with an application seeking the registration of a case against the two and others participating in the video shoot in the historic location.

In connection with the violation of the mosque’s sanctity, the Punjab government had also fired two senior officers. This isn’t the first time the actress has gotten herself into controversy; she previously received death threats while filming the biopic of social media sensation Qandeel Baloch as it was considered as  “un-Islamic” behavior.
