Arunachal: Bailey Bridge Over Sigin River Collapses

The Bailey bridge over the Sigin river, connecting the Kamle district with Upper Subansiri collapsed on Saturday night. The important bridge broke apart when a truck carrying a JCB earthmover was trying to cross it. However, no injuries have been reported so far.

The bridge is located within Daporijo town and connects to the road leading to Lower Subansiri district headquarters Ziro via Kamle district. After the mishap many commuters and vehicles are stranded on either side of the bridge.

It is to be noted that this is not the first time that the bridge has caved it. Incidents like this have happened many times in the past. The locals have slammed the district administration for not carrying out proper maintenance work on the weak bridge and not monitoring it regularly, which is why the Daporjio Police have been asked to register a case against the wrongdoers. For the time being, the bridge over at Tamen in Kamle district has been dismantled for  reconstruction  so it would not affect much on the movement of the people.
