The Arunachal Pradesh Election Commission held an all party meeting to Decide the Panchayat Election Dates. The State Congress committee in the meeting along with various other parties requested the state election commission to hold the Panchayat and municipal elections in Arunachal next year.

In a representation submitted to the state election commissioner, the state unit of the Congress citing various reasons, including the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and upcoming Christmas, urged to conduct the Panchayat and municipal elections in the state in the month of April/ May 2021

“Conducting elections now is a total violation of Covid SoPs issued by the state and central government and it may also attract the disaster management act. If the government wants to conduct the elections it can be pushed further into the month of April/May 2021 (before monsoon season). These are the months with less festivity and by the time vaccines for COVID-19 will also arrive to ease the misery of humankind as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the party said in his representation.
