In a bid to curb haphazard earth-cutting, two individuals were arrested by the Balijan police station OC on Thursday for engaging in illegal earth-cutting at the Chimpu-Hollongi four-lane road.

The individuals were in violation of the order issued by the Papum Pare district magistrate on 29 April, prohibiting all forms of earth-cutting in private or government allotted land.

The arrested persons have been identified as Md Makter Ali (34) and Gangaram Biswakarma (22). They have been booked under Section 188 IPC, the investigating officer of the case informed.
