Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday attended the 42nd Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, through video conferencing.

The Deputy CM forwarded the views of the State regarding the modalities of funding the shortfall in GST compensation. He fully supported the proposal put forth by the Govt of India and chose the option of borrowing funds to meet the shortfall of compensation cess as the State is not eligible for GST compensation, since the GST collections of the State have steadily been above the threshold of protected revenue.

After the meeting,  Mein gave directions to the Department of Tax & Excise and Narcotics to further increase the State’s tax collection.
