Arunachal: Contribution of first Lt Governor of Arunachal recalled

On February 19, Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra recalled the contribution of the first Lt Governor of the state KAA Raja for his immense contribution, especially in the field of education.

The state government has announced ‘Arunachal Ratna’, the highest state award, to Raja for his immense and unforgettable contributions to the socio-economic and administrative development of the state.

The award would be presented on the occasion of 36th Statehood Day on Sunday.

The governor during a meeting with Raja’s eldest daughter Vijayalakshmi, her youngest sibling Maragathavalli and other relatives, who called on him at Raj Bhawan here, said Raja distinctively and distinguishably contributed in the growth and development, in the nascent stage of the union territory of Arunachal Pradesh.

“Due to his visionary guidance, the state has grown on the strong foundation laid by Raja especially, in the field of education,” Mishra said.

The governor complimented the family members of Raja for accepting the invitation of the state to receive the ‘Arunachal Ratna’ award, an official communiqué informed.

He informed the visitors that the foundation stone of the present Raj Bhavan was laid by Raja and showed them the well-kept foundation stone plaque.

Mishra, who hails from the Madras Regiment, said Raja’s brother, Major General KAS Raja, was one of the distinguished generals of the Madras Regiment and the Governor had the good occasion to have personally interacted with him.

Raja’s eldest daughter-in-law, Lalitha Raja, eldest grandson Jai Venkatesh, granddaughter-in-law Krishna Priya, were also present on the occasion.

Vijayalaxmi and Maragathavalli fondly and emotionally recalled their early days in the then Raj Niwas in Naharlagun as also their occasional visits to the present Raj Bhavan, then under construction.

Raja’s family members thanked the governor for the hospitality and the fond recalls of the old events of the first governor’s time which happily rekindled their old memories, the communiqué added.
