The Arunachal Powerlifting Association (APA) has selected four players for the National Bench Press, Deadlift and Powerlifting Championship (equipped and unequipped) to be held in Surat, Gujarat, from 16 to 20 March.

The athletes are Katbang Bayang, Ongbem Mossang, Bamin Talu and Marjom Ete.

While Bayang (56 kg) will compete in the senior men’s deadlift event, Mossang (56 kg) will compete in the same event in the junior category.

Talu (55 kg) will take part in the junior men’s full powerlifting event and Ete will compete in both full powerlifting and deadlift events in the junior 67.5 kg category, APA vice president Techi Joram Tara said in a release.

It is to be mentioned that deadlift is different from powerlifting.

Deadlift is (weightlifting) a weight training exercise where one lifts a loaded barbell off the ground from a stabilized bent-over position while powerlifting is (sports) a strength sport, consisting of three events: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift the maximum weight lifted in each event is totalled for a final score.
