Gumto Village Emerges as Arunachal’s First Smart Village with Free Wifi Service

In a huge development, Gumto village located in the Papum Pare district became the First village with Free Wifi Service in Arunachal Pradesh. The service has been provided to Gumto village under Smart Village initiative on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The village has a total of 66 households and is Six kilometers away from sub-district headquarter Doimukh.

Papum Pare Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) Chukhu Bablu informed that the connectivity issue faced by the villagers and for proper utilisation of Fund received from Finance Commission made the Gumto Panchayat to come up with the decision.

The internet service will not only help the students for online studies but villagers can be updated on benefits of schemes and projects of the government as well as get updates on activities of the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) of their area” said ZPC.

“No charges will be taken from the villagers on use of the internet, it is fully free”, he added.

Circle Officer of Gumto, Mumne Borang informed that the initiative to provide free wi-fi will not only help students but also the villagers of Gumto Panchayat. She mentioned that the Internet facilities will also solve the digital gap. Moreover, villagers now can get easy access to schemes and projects of the government as well as information on education, health, financial sectors and others.
