Arunachal: Several Parts of West Kameng Receives Snowfall after Decades

West Kameng

Several Places in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng District on Saturday received their first snowfall after about two decades. Places like Shergaon, Dirang, Rahung and Rupa witnessed heavy snowfall from Friday evening to Saturday morning.

However, locals were seen enjoying the snowfall.

Bomdila Forest Division DFO Chukhu Loma said that these areas come under a warm and humid climatic zone but, because of lesser human activities due to the Covid-19 lockdowns over the last two years, “the climate is taking its own shape and the sky is getting clearer.”

“Nature is maintaining its own course of action,” he added.

Meanwhile, power supply remained interrupted across the West Kameng district for the second consecutive day. Reports of power supply disruption have been pouring in from Dirang, Nafra, Rupa and Kalaktang owing to damage of High Tension and Low Tension lines.

Heavy snowfall broke down boughs and branches of trees that fell on power lines, and some of the poles were smashed down that snapped the power supply.

“Despite harsh weather, apart from freezing temperature, we have been engaged to restore power supply in all those places,” said Pormar Gadi, junior engineer, department of Power, Bomdila.

He said that many HT 11KV lines have been damaged within Bomdila Township. Out of 15 feeders, only three feeders are drawing load.

At Dirang, many HT and LT supplies and 33KV Express from Bomdila to Nafra have been severely damaged due to Snowfall.
