Food Safety Dimapur conducted Eat Right India campaigns

Food Safety Dimapur conducted ‘Eat Right India’ campaigns in St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima under the theme ‘Eat Right School’ and in ICFAI campus, Sovima under the theme ‘Eat Right Campus’ by conducting food safety and healthy food awareness programmes.

The Eat right movement was launched in 2018 under the initiative of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) to improve public health and fight negative nutritional trends to fight lifestyle diseases.

The resource person Pelekhrienuo Kire Kense, Dietician, CIHSR highlighted the importance of nutrients in our diet, emphasizing on having a balanced diet in our daily meals by ensuring all the main nutrients are consumed in right portions. She urged the participants to opt for whole grain foods and avoid sweets and oily food. She also highlighted that consuming fast food on a regular basis causes many non-communicable diseases such diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.

Samuel, Designated Food Safety Officer, Dimapur stated that food safety is the responsibility of all. One must be mindful what they consume and informed that when buying a product, one must always check the package for FSSAI registration number, the nutritional values, ingredients, manufacturing and best before dates, address of manufacture, and for foreign products, also check for the importer’s address.

He also urged participants not to eat street food wrapped in old newspapers or textbooks as the ink used in printing is harmful. He further urged them to inform the Food Safety Cell Dimapur for any issues related to food products in the market.

Dr Mereninla Senlem, CMO Dimapur also highlighted the activities implemented under FSSAI Dimapur. She reiterated the importance of eating a balanced diet and urged the participants to reduce intake of fast food and sweets.
