Akhil Gogoi: “Assam Cow Protection Act is a plot to punish poor people”

Sivasagar MP Akhil Gogoi

Akhil Gogoi, a Sivasagar MLA and the head of Raijor Dal, led a large demonstration in Dhemaji on Monday against the new Assam Cow Protection Act. Hundreds of people took part in the demonstration, which demanded that the Act be repealed by the Assam government. Protesters chanted anti-Act chants, claiming that the Act would jeopardise many farmers’ livelihoods in the state.

Meanwhile, Akhil Gogoi has stated that if the Assam government fails to abolish the Cow Protection Act, his Raijor Dal party would start a state-wide protest. “This new Cow Protection Act in Assam will result in massive losses for the farmers of the state. On many occasions, farmers sell their cows to bear the study expenses of their children,” Akhil Gogoi said.

The Sivasagar MLA said that the ruling BJP in Assam brought the Act “just to please the RSS”. “Cow Protection Act is a conspiracy to harass the poor,” the Sivasagar MLA added. “I would like to inform the Assam chief minister that if the Act is not repealed at the earliest, Raijor Dal will organise a protest rally in Dispur with cows by our side,” Akhil Gogoi said.
