Assam: Amit Shah ‘authorises’ CM Sarma to hold Preliminary Discussions with ULFA(I)

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given him permission to conduct preliminary discussions with the militant outfit ULFA (I).

“I have discussed with the Home Minister over the matter of holding peace talks with the ULFA,” Sarma said after meeting with Union Home Minister Shah in New Delhi on Monday night (I). He has given me permission to conduct preliminary discussions with the ULFA(I).”

Chief Minister Sarma stated that if everything goes well, the Centre may become involved in the ULFA peace process later.
