Assam CM optimistic: NE border issues nearing resolution

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asserts that the longstanding boundary issues among Northeast states are finally moving towards harmonious resolutions. In a recent tweet, Sarma highlighted that the ad hoc formation of northeastern states by the Congress resulted in inter-state conflicts over boundary disputes for over five decades. However, he now sees progress as most of these matters involving Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland are approaching amicable settlements.

Sarma blames the Congress governments for the Northeast region’s historical sufferings, including geographical isolation, political instability, and imbalanced development, which endured for 70 years. According to him, the previous governments employed “divide and rule” tactics intentionally.

The CM further claims that within nine years of the BJP-led NDA government’s rule at the Centre, various conflicts in the region, which persisted for seven decades, have been successfully resolved.

It is worth noting that the Northeast region has faced multifaceted challenges over the years, and the current government’s efforts towards resolving these long-standing issues are being closely watched.
