Assam CM Himanta Biswa greets Olympic bronze winner Lovlina Borgohain in Guwahati

On August 12, Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain arrived in Assam, her native state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted the Olympic winner at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar, Guwahati.

Lovlina Borgohain, the first Assamese woman to earn an Olympic medal, won bronze in the women’s 69kg welterweight division. After Vijender Singh (2008) and MC Mary Kom, the 23-year-old boxer is only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. (2012).

Welcoming the Olympic medalist, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “With pride and glory, I welcomed our star Olympian medalist Lovlina Borgohai at Guwahati airport. Lovlina has ignited a billion dreams with her success at Tokyo Olympics 2020 and set an example for budding sports talents in rural areas to aspire for achieving big at the world stage.”
