Shrinkhal Chaliha, the head of the Bir Lachit Sena, requested on Thursday that Congress Baghbar seat MLA Sherman Ali be arrested immediately for allegedly insulting the martyrs.
Shrinkhal Chaliha, speaking to reporters at the Jorhat Press Club, said that Congress Baghbar constituency MLA Sherman Ali should bow and apologise for his disparaging remarks against the martyrs.
“We also demand immediate arrest of Sherman Ali by the government; else the government should be prepared for the circumstances,” added Chaliha.
It’s worth noting that MLA Sherman Ali previously argued that Dayanath Sarma and eight other people were not martyrs, but murderers.
“In 1983, Dayanath Sarma and eight other people ruthlessly murdered numerous Muslim people of Miya background,” Ali told the reporters.
MLA Ali had already been the subject of police complaints at the Dispur police station.
MLA Sherman Ali’s statement was deemed “irrelevant” by APCC president Bhupen Bora, who stated that his party will not allow such statements.
