Assam: Investigation on unlawful timber cutting & transportation in Manas National Park

The Environment and Forest Department has authorised Inquiring Officer cum Additional Secretary Deba Kalita to investigate the situation and submit a report following allegations of unlawful tree cutting and wood log trafficking across river in the Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve.

Parimal Suklabaidya, the Minister for Environment and Forests, has requested that the agency investigate the unlawful cutting and trafficking of wood logs across the river in the Bashbari range of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve.

According to a press release, Secretary of the Environment and Forest Department M.Baruah Sen issued an order to this effect on Saturday, instructing Kalita to investigate the matter and specify the names of the officials responsible for those areas (where the illegal activities occurred) and to submit a report by Thursday in order to take appropriate action.
