Assam : Linguist, Educationist Dr Ramesh Pathak passes away

Sahityacharya Dr. Ramesh Pathak passed away on 26 January, 2021. He was Assam’s renowned linguist, educationist and litterateur.

Dr. Pathak died on Tuesday evening at his residence in the Hatigaon, Guwahati. He was suffering from some ailments for the last several months. He was 79 years old.

He was a former professor in the Department of Assamese at Cotton College (now university).

Dr Pathak has a lot of contributions to the Assamese language and literature that includes the thoughts of Assam’s great Vaisnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva which he took to foreign countries.

Asam Sahitya Sabha, the largest literary body of Assam, honoured Dr. Pathak with the title of ‘Sahityacharya’, in recognition of his contributions towards the Assamese language and literature.

Dr. Pathak was recently conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 by the Publication Board Assam.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance & education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma have condoled the demise of Dr Pathak.
