Assam: Lurin Jyoti Gogoi wants immediate action to turn Sivasagar into Tourist Destination

Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), speaks to the media after the executive body meeting of the political party’s Sivasagar District Committee on Saturday in Demow. Gogoi has called for immediate action to turn Sivasagar into a tourist destination.

Sivasagar, formerly Sibsagar (“Lord Shiva’s Ocean”), is a town in Upper Assam located 360 kilometres (224 miles) north of Guwahati. It is the Sivasagar district’s administrative centre. The Ahom palaces and monuments are well-known. Today, Sivasagar is a major centre for the tea and oil industries.

He also asked the government to take action to prevent erosion in Desangmukh and Rupahimukh ass Assam’s extensive network of rivers makes it vulnerable to natural calamities such as flooding and erosion, which has a detrimental influence on the state’s overall development.
