Man kills wife, hangs self over marital discord in Udalguri

A 47-year-old homoeopathic doctor in Assam’s Udalguri district allegedly hacked his wife to death before committing suicide in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, Dr Jayanta Kumar Sarma had a physical confrontation with his wife in Borjolah village, on the outskirts of Tangla town, and attacked her with a dao.

The wife of the doctor was identified as Mamoni Devi.

The couple had two children, whom they addressed as members of their family.

Later, Mamoni Devi, aged 41-year-old, was rushed to a private hospital where she succumbed to her injuries after his two children raised the alarm.

Later, Dr Sarma is said to have committed suicide in a field near his home.

Meanwhile, Tangla Police recovered the doctor’s body in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and sent it for a post-mortem examination in Udalguri.

Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation has revealed that family discord is the primary cause of the incident; there appears to be no other explanation.

Moreover, from the scene of the incident, the police have registered a case and seized a number of items, including a dao and a cellphone.

However, the police are looking into the situation.
