To recognize foreigners living illegally in the northeastern region of India, the government has been requested by the North East Students’ Organization (NESO) to prepare a National Register of Citizens (NRC) in all the states of Northeast India.
For many years, all the following governments at the Centre have were not able to resolve the problem of illegal migrants, said NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa.
“As a result of this, the indigenous people of the Northeast are facing an identity crisis,” said Jyrwa.
NRC is required to be implemented in all the states of the Northeast, he said.
Inner Line Permit (ILP) system was also demanded by the NESO in all the states of the region.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 will be strongly opposed by the NESO, Jyrwa said.
He asserted that the Government of India has raised the infiltration problem by bringing in the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
NESO will hold a meeting next year to discuss their plan of implementing region-wide protests against the CAA, said Jyrwa.
The NESO chairman said the Centre should disengage CAA.
