Assam: Police arrests over 450 illegal land ‘Dalals’ including Vrindavan Garden Owner

According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s orders, Assam Police have detained 453 land ‘Dalals’ or brokers across the state in a night-long operation.

At a state-level conference of circle officers and Additional Deputy Commissioners-Revenue (ADCs) held in Guwahati on September 8, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke out against the system of engaging land brokers.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that the Chief Minister’s Vigilance squad will keep a strict eye on the circular offices and will arrest any broker found there.

He had also urged officials to avoid engaging with land brokers and to address public complaints immediately.

“453 land brokers picked up so far in continuing raids by Assam Police in our concerted pledge to end #AssamFightsDalalRaj. This notorious practice of brokers/dalals in revenue offices harassing commoners must end. Our fight against nefarious activities will go on relentlessly”, tweeted CM Sarma.

The operation has now resulted in the arrest of Rameshwar Talkudar, the proprietor of Guwahati’s ‘Vrindavan Garden,’ which is rented out for parties and other events.
