Assam: Police Seize Drugs worth Rs 8 Crore in Bokajan; Two Arrested

Two suspected drug smugglers were arrested by the police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong with a consignment of suspected drugs worth Rs 8 crores. The police informed that based on a secret input, a police team intercepted two persons who were crossing the Dhansiri River by a boat in Bokajan.

On interrogating them, the police found that they were allegedly transporting 85 boxes of suspected drugs weighing around 1.4 kg. They were trying to smuggle the suspected drugs from Nagaland’s Dimapur to Bokajan in Karbi Anglong.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikoto Yeptomi and Hitoho Sumi, both residents of Dimapur.

The police stated that the drugs were packed inside 85 soap cases and are worth approximately Rs 8 crore in the black market.

“Based on specific information, we arrested two youths from the Gharialdubi area of Bokajan while trying to smuggle 1 Kilogram of heroin into Assam from Dimapur by crossing the Dhansiri river near Bokajan,” John Das, SDPO, Bokajan, said.

“We learnt about this new tactic of smuggling drugs while interrogating a drug smuggler who was arrested recently and accordingly we engaged sources in the area which resulted in the recovery,” the SDPO added.
