The hearing of the bail plea by Supreme Court for peasant leader and Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi is scheduled on February 11.

The bail plea for Akhil Gogoi will be heard by a three-judge bench comprising Justices NV Ramanna, Surya Kant and Aniruddha Basu of the Supreme Court on February 11.

Gauhati High Court rejected Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea on January 7, 2021.

Akhil Gogoi has been jailed since December 2019 for indulging in Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest in Assam. His health is deteriorating day-by-day.

He was booked in multiple cases, including charges of sedition and provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Previously, the special NIA court in Guwahati granted bail to Akhil Gogoi in one of the two cases registered by NIA in regard to his involvement in protests against CAA in Assam.

After Gauhati High Court dismissed Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea, advocate Shantanu Borthakur said, “We had decided to move the Supreme Court challenging the order by the Gauhati High Court and accordingly we filed a petition on January 27”.
