Two people arrested for allegedly selling deer meat in Bijni

The SSB arrested two people from Chirang’s Bijni on Tuesday for allegedly selling deer meat at a local market.

Swaram Narzary and Rangalu Basumatary, both from the same area, have been identified as the suspects.

Moreover, they’ve both been charged with poaching and selling deer meat.

According to the SSB, they raided the duo at the Dumdum Bazar in Bijni after receiving information that they were dealing in illegal bushmeat. They discovered them selling deer meat.

They were found with 43 kilograms of deer meat in total.

Both suspects have been handed over to local authorities.

There have been several reports of illegal forest products being traded in the Indo-Bhutan border area.

On February 17, a suspect in the illegal deer meat trade was apprehended in Kumarisali, Bijni.

He was apprehended by an SSB team based on specific information.

The person arrested, according to the SSB, was Abin Narzary, a resident of Ladanguri in Bijni and moreover, in the area, he has been involved in the illegal trade and supply of deer meat.

However, on that particular day, they were able to recover at least 20 kilogrammes of suspected deer meat from his possession that was meant to be sold in the area.
