Assamese journalists Kalyan Baruah, Anirban Bora succumb to COVID-19

Two more journalists from Assam, Kalyan Baruah and Anirban Bora based in New Delhi, passed away due to COVID-19 related complications.

Kalyan Baruah, the New Delhi Bureau Chief of The Assam Tribune passed away at a private hospital in Delhi while undergoing treatment for coronavirus at 8.40 am. His wife, Nilakshi Bhattacharyya passed away battling COVID-19 at a private hospital in New Delhi a day before, on April 30. She was working with The Times of India, New Delhi. The couple is survived by a daughter.

Another Assamese journalist Anirban Bora, who worked as the Graphic Editor for The Economic Times in New Delhi, passed away this morning due to COVID-19. He was 42. He is survived by his wife and a son.

The second wave of COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the healthcare infrastructure in the country. According to a recent study by Rate The Debate of Delhi based institution at least 128 journalists have died due to COVID-19 in India from April 2020 till April 2021. Of these, 77 died during the worst health crisis in April 2021.
