Golaghat Police arrests seven Bir Lachit Sena members for extortion

Golaghat Police have arrested seven members of the Bir Lachit Sena on extortion and threatening a businessman charges. On Monday, they were arrested under various sections of the IPC.

According to reports, the arrestees allegedly shut down a mobile phone shop after accusing the owner (a non-Assamese) of failing to pay pending salaries to one of the company’s “Assamese” employees.

Dipen Gogoi, Tarun Lahon, Rintu Gogoi, Jayanta Gogoi, Dipjyoti Talukdar, Guno Hazarika, and Dwipen Gogoi were among those arrested. Meanwhile, a member of the organisation stated that the accusations are false, claiming that no money was demanded.

He went on to say that the members were only trying to help an Assamese citizen who was in financial trouble.
As a result, they demanded that the shop owner pay his unpaid wages. The group also claimed that they were set up by the shop owner, who has ties to the police.
