Assam’s ‘war on drugs’: Heroin worth Rs 7 crore seized near Guwahati; 6 arrested

In its fight against the state’s drug mafia, the Assam police have scored a major victory. Assam police officials seized 1.12 kilogrammes of heroin from Sonapur, near Guwahati, late Saturday night.

In international markets, the seized heroin is estimated to be worth more than Rs 7 crore. Near the Sonapur Toll Gate, the drugs were discovered in a Tata Bolero car.

The heroin consignment (94 packets weighing 12 grammes each) was stuffed into various parts of the vehicle, including the engine compartment, seats, tail lamps, and so on. The drugs were smuggled into Assam from Manipur, according to preliminary investigation.
