According to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state government has decided to rename various regions and villages that are not in accordance with the state’s culture and traditions.
According to the procedure, the state government will soon launch a web portal where the public can apply for name changes in their municipality.
Addressing a crowd at the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of Guwahati’s second medical college, Sarma stated, “There are some places where the people of the locality do not wish to take the name.” Some places are named maliciously in some communities. This must be changed.”
The Assam CM further added that the region was named after Kalapahad – a Muslim General of Bengal Sultanate who attacked the Kamakhya Temple.
“So definitely this name has to be removed, I have urged the local MLA to consult with the people and suggest a suitable name”, mentioned the CM.
