Suspended Assam Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika was detained on Tuesday by sleuths from the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell.

The Senior IPS official was detained at his home on suspicion of acquiring assets in excess of his recognised sources of income.

He was apprehended by a squad of CM Vigilance Cell officers led by SP Rosie Kalita at his home in Rupkonwar Path, Hengrabari, Guwahati.

Hazarika, who was acting as the DIG (border), was suspended in July when it was discovered that he had gone abroad on multiple times without obtaining the requisite permissions since 2011. Hazarika joined the Assam Police Service (APS) in 1992 and rose through the ranks to become an IPS officer.
