Assam: Thousands of displaced Bodo & Adivasi people to return home after 25 years

Thousands of Adivasi and Bodo people from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will return to school after being displaced by ethnic violence in western Assam’s Chirang and Kokrajhar districts.

“Riots erupted in Bodoland in 1996, 2008, and 2012.” Following the signing of the BTR Peace Accord in January 2020, the region has experienced a return to peace. BTC chief Pramod Boro was quoted in The Hindu as saying, “We want the affected people to go back home and live their lives without fear.”

He stated that the affected Adivasi and Bodo people of Gossaigaon [Kokrajhar district] will be the first to be rehabilitated.
