Agencies seize illegal cash & items worth Rs 100 crore

The amount of illegal cash and prohibited items seized in Manipur ahead of the state’s Assembly elections has surpassed Rs 100 crore.

Manipur’s chief electoral officer (CEO), Rajesh Agarwal, announced this on Thursday.

In addition, Manipur’s CEO also said that the income tax department seized Rs 1.47 crore in illegal cash out of the total seizures.

Moreover, during the raids, authorities seized drugs worth Rs 84.7 crore.

However, ahead of the Assembly elections, 18,039 arms have been deposited in Manipur.

Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Manipur Assembly elections, 328 cases have been filed in the state.

A total of 600 all-women polling stations will be set up in Manipur for the elections, according to the Manipur CEO.

Moreover, Manipur CEO Rajesh Agarwal said that women will be in charge of one out of every five polling stations.

Furthermore, Manipur Assembly elections will be held in two stages on February 28 and March 5.

In the first round of voting, a total of 173 candidates are running, including 15 women.

In the second phase of the Manipur elections, however, 92 candidates are running, including two female candidates.

Meanwhile, 56 candidates in Manipur, out of a total of 265 candidates, have criminal records, according to Agarwal.
