A couple with 260.3 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 14 lakh in the local market has been arrested by a combined team of Thoubal commandos, Lilong police and a column of 16 Assam Rifles. The couple have been arrested from their residence at Lilong today.

The police said that the combined team under the supervision of Thoubal SP H Jogeshchandra rushed to the house of Makakmayum Wahid and carried out a search operation at around 4 am. During the operation, the team recovered 8 soap cases containing brown sugar, 28 small packets containing brown sugar, Rs 1,82,000, a mobile phone along with SIM card, Maruti Alto car, a leather lady hand bag and small trunk box belonging to Makakmayum Wahid and his wife Nashima (23) . 

The couple was apprehended on spot by observing necessary formalities at around 5 am. The arrested couple along with the recovered items have been handed over to Lilong Police Station.
