On Friday, a security guard stationed outside the home of Manipur BJP president A Sharada Devi was fatally shot by a fellow guard in Imphal.
Thonginthang Baite, a fellow security guard, reportedly shot the victim in the face with his service rifle (AK series) at around 10 a.m., according to police officials.
The seriously injured security guard was transported to a private hospital in Imphal, but he died of his injuries later that evening, according to the Indian Express. The victim and the accused were both members of the 7th Manipur Rifles unit.
A total of 16 security officers from the 7th MR have been assigned to the state BJP chief’s protection.
In connection with the event, police arrested the suspect and charged him under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
When the incident occurred, BJP president A Sharda Devi and her husband A Jashobanta were not at home.
