A vast quantity of illegal Betel nuts and Chinese WIN Cigarettes were recovered by the Chandel Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), on Friday.

An operation was launched by Assam Rifles in Songyang village in Chandel district after they received appropriate inputs of Contraband items being smuggled.

Hidden inside vegetation, around 400 kilos of Indonesian Betel nuts and 5000 packets of imported Chinese cigarettes were recovered after forces carried out a search operation in the jungles of New Songyang village.

For further actions to be taken legally, the recovered items worth Rs 8.45 lakhs was handed over to the custom office in Pallel.
