Two Manipur-based organizations have offered a reward of Rs 60,000 for information on two dog killers in the Thoubal district.
The organization that has announced the reward are the Manipur Dog Lovers’ Club and the Yening Animal Foundation.
On Tuesday, the group initiated a campaign in the district to bring justice to the animal.
According to the groups, “Two bike-borne men killed the dog, Mylo, at Wangjing Lamding Cherapura and took away its carcass. The dog belonged to a local resident, Longjam Anandkumar.”
In addition, the group said that the members would submit a memorandum to the government if necessary, requesting justice for the dog and urging it to stop animal cruelty.
Moreover, the Manipur police rescued 48 dogs in Kakching district in September while they were being transported in a mini-truck.
The driver and his companion were arrested under the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act of 1960.
Previously, the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department of the Meghalaya government issued an order on September 9, 2021, prohibiting all types of dog killing.
The slaughter of stray or trained dogs is a criminal crime under Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Furthermore, the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation of 2011 also prohibit the killing of dogs for meat.
As a result, Meghalaya prohibits the slaughter of stray or trained dogs, as well as the killing of dogs for meat.
Anyone who disobeys the order would be prosecuted under the law.
