Manipur : M Rameshwar Singh sworn as MLA

BJP leader Mayanglabam Rameshwar Singh got elected from Kakching assembly constituency by the Manipur High Court last week. He swore in as an MLA, on Monday.

The oath was administered by the Assembly Speaker, Y Khemchand Singh with Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other ministers present during the ceremony.

The election of Y Surchandra Singh, MLA of Kakching, was declared as null and void due to his failure to disclose details of his assets and liabilities in the poll affidavit in 2017.

Rameshwar was overtaken by Surchandra, a Congress candidate, by 630 votes in the assembly election that was held in 2017.He joined the saffron party afterwards.

The Chief Minister stated that the executive, legislature and judiciary have separate  [powers and functions in a democracy.

The judiciary has implemented its power in the case filed by Rameshwar with approval of the government, he said.
