Concentrating mainly on minor minerals such as sand, stone and clay, a combined discussion was held at the Conference Hall on Wednesday which was chaired by Textiles, Commerce and Industry, Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh.
A legal prohibition was forced on mining and transportation of minor minerals in 2019 by the High Court of Manipur which resulted in the scarcity of construction necessities. The meeting was held after questions started to pour from public regarding the shortage of materials.
The officials of Geology and Mining sectors were directed by Singh to work with the Forest Department regarding environmental clearance. Amendment of the Manipur Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 2012 was also brought forward to be implemented in the state cabinet.

The officials of Geology and Mining needed to be notified about information relating to mineral administration by the Forest Department Officials, urged Singh. The Mineral Administration was handed over to the Commerce & Industries Department in 2018.
The meeting was also attended by the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai along with other officials.
