Near Mata village in Churachandpur district, a medical college with a capacity of 100 MBBS seats will be constructed soon, according to Manipur transport, tribal affairs and hills minister Vungzagin Valte on Sunday.
Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences is the first state-run medical college in Imphal East, the construction of the new medical college will make it a second. Health and family welfare ministry will fund the medical college and Manipur public works department will construct the road heading towards the college.
Manipur Police Housing Corporation will construct the college. A sum of Rs. 325 crore has been approved and sanctioned by the Central Ministry for the construction. According to a statement issued by Manipur information and public relations department, the first installment has been released to the state government.
According to the Ministry, the construction area of the proposed college is said to be of 25 acres.
