Manipur : Power tariff reduction; one-time relaxation to avail journalists pension

A State Cabinet meeting was held in Tamenglong District Headquarters, chaired by the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh where various decisions were taken. The Cabinet announced a tariff reduction for Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Project from Rs. 4.38 to Rs. 4.14 per unit, considering to avail infrastructure grant of Rs. 40.68 crores from Government of India.

The Cabinet took the decision of appointing Laishram Biyapati Chanu w/o Late N. Binoy Meetei, ASI, NDRF who had recently died on duty at Dzuko forest fire. The Cabinet also approved the promotion of L Anita Chanu, Coach (Weight Lifting) to the post of Assistant Director (Sports Promotion) for her accomplishment in the weightlifting field. She has been awarded the Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement and is the only coach from Manipur to receive it.

Pension scheme membership from 45 to 65 years as a one-time measure under Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension (Amendment) Rules, 2014 was also approved.

Various bills will be introduced in the ensuing session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly that will cover sectors like Public Service Delivery, Industrial Single Window Clearance System and taxation matters, amongst others. Approval of manpower increase for land records modernization in the Revenue Department was also done.

The Cabinet Meeting in Tamenglong District was the second to be held under the State Government’s “Go to Hills” Mission.
