Manipur Police Unveils Significant Arms & Ammunition Haul Amid Ongoing Crisis

In a press release dated September 19, Manipur Police unveiled the startling discovery of arms and ammunition in the possession of five armed individuals, who were apprehended following a search operation conducted on September 16. This development comes in the midst of a crisis between communities in Manipur, prompting the state police to launch extensive combing operations in both the Valley and Hill Districts to apprehend those responsible.

On September 11, the Manipur State Police achieved a major breakthrough when they recovered a substantial cache of weaponry in the Kholmum area of Churachandpur district.

The recovered arsenal includes:

  • 1 M4 Assault Rifle with magazine and 3 rounds
  • 2 9mm Pistols (Pietro Beretta) with magazines and 7 rounds each
  • 2 Country-made 9mm Pistols with magazines
  • 1 9mm Carbine Machine Gun (Country-made) with magazine
  • 2 Single Barrel Rifles
  • 2 Country-made Improvised Mortar Pumps
  • 8 Cartridges of 38mm Rubber Bullets
  • 1 Kenwood Walkie Talkie
  • 1 Chinese Walkie Talkie (Baofeng)

“This discovery underscores the diligent efforts put forth by our security forces,” the press note from Manipur Police states. Additionally, regular checks of the Soo camps situated in the hill districts are being carried out to verify the presence of cadres within these camps. On September 18 and 19, 2023, a joint inspection was conducted on four Soo camps in CCPur and one SoO camp in Kangpokpi. This inspection involved the combined efforts of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), local police, and Assam Rifles.
