Bomb hoax creates panic in Shillong city

On Sunday, a hoax involving a suspected bomb caused panic in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya.

The suspected bomb was discovered in the Jingkieng neighbourhood of Shillong’s Nongthymmai district.

Moreover, a ‘packet’ containing a suspected bomb was discovered in the toilet of the Nongthymmai sports and cultural club’s indoor stadium in Shillong’s Jingkieng, according to police in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district.

The packet was reportedly spotted by a caretaker of the stadium.

Following notification of the authorities, a bomb squad was dispatched, which confirmed that the incident was a hoax.

A note with the words “Bomb inside” was also discovered pasted to the packet.

Moreover, when bomb squad members arrived on the scene, they discovered a packet containing a lighter and a used cellphone.

Police, on the other hand, is not taking any chances and are attempting to apprehend those responsible for the prank.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya police department has opened an investigation into the incident.

However, it should be noted that on January 30, an IED exploded in Shillong’s Khyndailad (Police Bazar).

The blast occurred near the Police Bazaar’s Delhi Misthan Bhandar, which is a busy area of the city. A bomb squad was dispatched to the blast site and inspected the area.
