In 2019-20, 17 water supply schemes along the Assam-Meghalaya border depicted a bleak picture.

Out of 17 projects, only 5 of them were completed so far, and the Forst Department has stopped 4 schemes.

The Forest Department has stopped the work on four other schemes in this division after completing 20% of the work at Amring NC, 30% of the work at Jalukpaham NC, 20% of the work at Kongthong Paham NC, and 20% of the work at Nong Teria NC.

However, PHED’s Dhubri Division has two of the 17 schemes, Goalpara Division has seven, and Guwahati Division has eight.

Moreover, these PWS Schemes are funded by various government programs, including SAGY, NRDWP, Swajal, and SOPD-G.

According to PHED, under the JJM  (Jal Jeevan Mission), the department has sanctioned 386 water supply schemes along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

While 48 of the sanctioned schemes are for retrofitting existing schemes, and the remaining 338 are for new PWS schemes.
